The soil from the stem of a Tulsi plant or Peepal tree or that collected from a cow's hoof is sattvic and success-giving; hence the
tilak applied with it is beneficial.
He who at the time of death has (heard) the narration (of the virtues) or the recollection of Vishnu, and who is cremated with the Tulsi-wood is not reborn.
If among a hundred (pieces of any other kind of) wood, there is (just) one (piece) of Tulsi-wood (placed in the choti, (i.e. a lock of hair left unshaven on the crown of the head or the top knot of the person), the man would have salvation just at the time of cremation even if he has committed a crore of sin. Those whose bodies are burnt with the Tulsi-wood (are free from sins), so also he on whose dead body the Tulsi-wood is placed and who (i.c. whose dead body) is cremated after doing so, is freed from sins.
(The Padma Purana)
Place the Tulsi wood on the mouth, stomach, and head of the dead body according to what is proper.
Using Tulsi wood while performing funeral rites ensures the salvation of the departed soul.
If one practices Pranayama sitting near a Tulsi plant, the inhaled air scented with the disease-destroying air emanated therefrom destroys the
pathogens in the body, thereby making the body well nourished, strong, and vigorous besides increasing its vigor and radiance.
*Taking the fresh juice of Tulsi in the morning or eating 5-7 leaves thereof by masticating them well and drinking a glass of water (kept overnight in a copper pot) enhances strength, luster, and memory.
*Consumption of Tulsi and staying in its proximity controls evil thoughts, fits of anger, and lust.
*Tulsi helps in anaemia. Regular consumption of Tulsi increases Hemoglobin rapidly and one feels energetic throughout the day.
